English Class

As far as we've gotten into the year, English is one of my favorite classes. I have enjoyed most of the lessons and activities we have had so far. So far, I have learned about how our class has a wide variety of writers and readers. People are on different levels with writing and reading. Like me, I hate reading but I'm okay with having to write a bit. Not only did I have to write a bit, but A LOT! Free writing almost got me to question myself whether I really do like writing.
My blog. It is one of the things I really like in this class. I like the idea of sharing ideas in a virtual world because it will be easier to contribute. As in the class discussion, barely anyone contributes so the blog will open up the opportunity for shy people to share ideas and work.
The class discussion table is really awkward. After a long awkward pause in the class discussion, I will eventually say something to try and cancel out the awkwardness. I would like to have some kind of system so people will have to contribute like having two paper slips which resembles turns to speak and if you haven't used up the paper slips, you have to do something for not contributing. Or maybe we could practice somehow to work up to being more comfortable in public speaking. This is a really fun class. It's not one of the subjects where I see I have it today and go ugghhh. It is a big improvment from last years English class and am looking forward to keeping my blog up to date.

  1. I agree, I think that for those of us that are a bit more shy in class can have that platform to express ourselves more. I think your right that this in turn will encourage people to speak more in class. I don't really agree with your idea about the paper slips, because we will probably find that people either cheat and throw away the slips or everyone will start trying to talk at the end of class because they still have slips left and we will still end up having the awkward silence at the beginning of class.

  3. Walther, I can agree with just about everything you said. Especially about the class discussion table. I keep wondering why everyone is so silent and doesn't want to contribute. Everyone can't be shy,can they? I don't quite agree with the idea of punishing someone for not contributing, but I really get the message you are trying to send out. However, I think that if our class contributed more in not just English, but all other subjects, everyone will have a lot more fun learning. I don't mean to sound nerdy there, but school is really starting to get boring with a silent class.

  4. I agree with your comment and I rethought. It won't be right punishing someone for not contributing. Thanks for the feedback!

  5. You really wrote this paragraph well. I really liked the details you put in there and how you talked about your free-writing! I totally agree with you on the part when you talked about the class discussions.

  6. I like you idea of the paper slips its just that people would work around that but I guess at the end of the day its their loss for not being honest.
